Apprenticeship overview
You’ll become skilled at building, managing, and optimising data infrastructures. You’ll apply your learning in the workplace, creating data pipelines that flow across departments and get to key decision makers at the right time.
Once you’ve finished the programme, you’ll be adept at applying specialist data skills, from collecting and ingesting data to building comprehensive database systems and data lakes. You’ll also develop highly transferable technical skills such as advanced programming, scripting, SQL, and NoSQL.

Who’s eligible?
To apply for this Data Engineer programme you must be employed in a relevant data engineering role, please note, this programme is very role specific.
In addition, you must posses one of the following:
- Level 3 qualification, such as A Level (or equivalent) in a computer science, data, technology or engineering related subject
- A minimum of 720 hours of technology-related work experience (IT, software or engineering) attested by your manager
- Level 4 qualification in a business-related subject and on a career pathway to convert to an engineering career

- Designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructures, including pipelines, databases, and data lakes.
- Advanced programming and scripting capability, including strong SQL and NoSQL skills for data manipulation and optimisation.
- Cloud, hybrid, and on‑premise architecture knowledge, covering networks, production environments, and cyber‑security considerations.
- Data ingestion, processing, and governance expertise to ensure data is accurate, secure, and reliable for real‑time decision‑
- End‑to‑end data engineering problem‑solving, applying real‑world case studies to deliver scalable, high‑impact data solutions.
