Insurance Practitioner

Ideal if you are at the beginning of your insurance career, this programme will give you a thorough induction to the industry and you will build a range of transferable skills you can apply to a range of career paths including underwriting, client relations, insurance claims, loss adjusting, broking, reinsurance and account management.

Programme Eligibility

Please note that unless you are in a Claims, Underwriting or Broking role you will be unable to join this programme. If you are outside of these areas and wish to study the CII Certificate, please refer to the Financial Services Administrator programme.

Exemption Process

If you have previously studied any element of the CII or you have completed a university degree you may have too many exemptions to be eligible for this programme. If you wish to apply for CII exemptions please review the link below, alternatively exemptions can be added following completion of this programme and count towards your DIP CII should you wish to study that in the future; any charges for applying for exemptions need to also be approved. Entry requirements

To be eligible you must fulfil the following criteria:
  1. You must be employed in a role relevant to this programme to be eligible to apply.
  2. Your current role should be UK based and you must have lived here for at least three years
  3. The programme must address development needs in your current role
  4. Your line manager must be able to support you throughout the programme

  • Understanding of processes and procedures relevant to the role

This programme combines the knowledge from a professional qualification with the skills you’ll need to demonstrate professionalism in your current role.

Insurance Practitioner core occupation duties include:
  • Commercial
  • Analysis and Decisions
  • Quality Assurance
  • Communication
  • IT Systems
  • Data Protection
  • Regulatory Understanding
You will also study Cert CII modules as part of this apprenticeship.

Specialist Duties

  •  Online Learning
  •  Reflection Submission
  •  BPP Coach feedback
All apprentices must complete the core duties of the occupation and then there are three optional routes for specialism.
  • Claims Handler/Loss Adjuster - Fraud & Processing
  • Assistant Underwriter - Risk & Limits
  • Junior Broker - Represent & Products and service

End Point Assessment

Once you have completed all of the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours, you will complete an End Point Assessment. This is conducted by an external assessment organisation and will be graded as either a pass, fail, or distinction.

How we support you

  • You will be taught by expert tutors who have practical experience in the fields in which they teach and a passion to share that knowledge to maximise your career potential
  • You will have access to a Coach who is on hand to guide you through each stage of your learning journey, providing you with clear aims and objectives. They will keep in regular contact with you and instil the confidence that you can achieve
  • You will also attend webinars to develop skills in a variety of areas and prepare you for the end point assessment.
  • You will have access to an Online Learning Environment with all of your qualification content, additional learning resources and all the step-by-step support you need to ensure your success

Commitment from you

During this programme, six hours a week will be spent on learning and developing the required Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours. This development time will include learning new relevant tasks in your role, embedding your knowledge in your role, practical workplace training, spending development time with your Line Manager, attending online or face-to-face courses and time spent writing assignments/assessments or directed self-study hours:
  • Cert CII work
  • Evidencing the application of your knowledge within your working day
  • Independent study and research
  • Shadowing colleagues and mentoring
  • Technical training

Progression upon completion

  • This apprenticeship provides professional membership of the Chartered Insurance Institute. It is also the first step on the route to an Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) qualification
  • You can progress onto the Insurance Professional programme
  • Further career progression through work experience
